Set the device to the correct position and orientation while scanning to get the best results.
When using the device with the harness system, the orientation must be correct. This makes sure as much as possible is visible to the scanner and cameras in the device — critically, this includes your shoulders being visible to the device. If the device is too low, you block the scanner.
This image shows the optimum position of the device. Consider this the standard position for scanning over long periods. You should feel comfortable and not feel any pressure on your neck — if you do, tighten the width straps on the harness.
If the device is too low or too close to you, the view of the scanner and cameras is restricted. This leads to unstable SLAM and lower point cloud density.
More guidance
- If the laser is at eye level, the device sits too high. Adjust the height straps on the harness system.
- If the laser scanner isn't fully above your shoulder, the device sits too low. Adjust the height straps on the harness.
- Perform a test scan of the environment. Check that the SLAM status bar is fully green and that your shoulders are visible to the laser scanner.
- Ask someone to check that the orientation is correct.
