This document describes some tips and tricks on setting the correct position and orientation of the device while you are scanning.
When using the device with the Harness system it is critical that the orientation is correct, so that the scanner and cameras in the device can see as much as possible, critically this includes being able to see over your shoulders. If the device is too low, you will be blocking the scanner.
Shown here is the optimum position of the device. Check if the scanner and cameras are above your shoulders, you should see a reflection of your face in the device’s screen. This position can be considered as the standard position for scanning for long periods. You should feel comfortable and not feel any pressure on your neck, if you do you may need to tighten the width straps on the harness.
In the example shown below the angle of the device is insufficient and it is too close to you (A) or the angle of the device is too much (B). the view of the scanner and cameras is restricted. This leads to unstable SLAM and lower point cloud density.
In the example shown below the Harness System not setup correctly:
Put on too high (A). The Holster is too high at the front and the Hand Support Strap is pulled too tight.
Put on too low (B). The Holster it too low at the front.
More guidance
If the laser Scanner is on eye-level, the device sits too high. Adjust the height straps on the Harness System.
If the Laser Scanner is not fully above your shoulder, the device sits too low. Adjust the height straps on the harness.
Perform a test scanning of the environment, check the SLAM Status Bar is fully green and that the Laser Scanner can see over your shoulders.
Ask someone to check for you if the orientation is ok.
Refer to the Harness System Setup procedure here.
