Troubleshooting warning message: 'Datasets are too far away from site'

Issue description

This procedure describes how to solve the error message “Too far from site” which blocks the data transfer from NavVis IVION Processing (Processed data) to the NavVis IVION Dataset Management.

When adding a processing job in NavVis IVION and uploading a control point file, a warning is shown:

Root Cause: A Site can include Point cloud data spanning 20,000m around the base point. A site is setup with a spatial reference system around a base point. Data is processed with a control point file which, ideally, has the same spatial reference system. NavVis IVION checks if the processed Dataset lies within this 20,000m limit. If it is further away, this warning is triggered.

Troubleshooting procedure

Step 1: Check if your site is using a spatial reference system

When working with georeferenced data and control points it’s very likely that a Spatial Reference System was defined when the site was setup.

1. Open the Site Setup, enter Draft Mode: refer to Published version vs Draft version.

2. Navigate to Settings > Edit Site Location, refer to Editing a Site Location.

3. Check if the site uses a spatial reference system (see image below).

4. Note down the EPSG Code if a spatial reference system was used.

Step 2: Download the quality report

Download the quality report for the dataset which is showing the error “too far from site”

Step 3: Check the coordinate system for the dataset

Open the quality report and check if surveyed control points were used when processing the data and check the corresponding coordinate system for the dataset was used.

The datasets may be referenced using either a Local Reference System or a Spatial Reference System, depending on your processing settings. For more information, refer to Processing Tasks, subpoint 8 b) c). See examples below.

Step 4: Check if your site’s Spatial Reference System matches the processed datasets

To ensure your dataset can be loaded into Dataset Management, the site's coordinate system must match the coordinate system of your processed dataset.

If your site uses a Spatial Reference System but your dataset uses a Local Reference System, reprocess the dataset and select the correct Spatial Reference System when uploading your control point file. For more details, refer to Processing Tasks, subpoint 8 b) c).

Step 5: Check the Base point

Check the translation of Northing, Easting for both the control point file and base point. If the Easting/Northing values are reversed and therefore using a left-handed coordinate system, this error message will display.

1. The control point file needs to list [ID, Easting/x, Northing/y, Height/z]

2. The base point should be set as [Easting/x, Northing/y, Height/z].
