Adding the Control Point

It is important when you add a control point, that the scanner of the device has a clear field of view of the surroundings. While adding a control point, monitor the SLAM Status Bar displayed at the top of the Scanning Screen.

When adding a control point, keep in mind the following:

The best method of adding a control point is from the surface of a wall or floor, when the device is stable, with no movement, and the scanner of the device has a good field of view, such as the examples shown below.

  • A significant area of the device is in contact with the surface, providing stability.

  • The field of view for the scanner is free.

In the example shown below, the corner of the device is in contact with the floor giving some stability, as well as the Control Point Pin (two points of contact). This is best for a corridor with little features, as this gives the scanner a free field of view to the beginning and end of the corridor. Take care that you do not block the scanner.

  • The device is stable.

  • There is a good field of view for the scanner.

In the example shown below, the body of the device is not in contact with the surface of the floor, only the Control Point Pin (one point of contact).

  • This makes it harder to keep the device stable.

  • But potentially the scanner has as good field of view, as the scanner is slightly higher.

When you have the device in a position that provides the best accuracy with stability, you are ready to add the control point.
