Capturing Control Points
The following video is a short extract from the training module available from the NavVis Academy on how to add a control point while scanning.
It is important when you capture a control point, that the scanners of the device has a clear field of view of the surroundings. While capturing a control point, monitor the SLAM Status Bar displayed at the top of the Scanning Screen.
When capturing a control point, keep in mind the following:
The best method of capturing a control point is from the surface of a wall or floor, when the device is stable, with no movement, and the scanner of the device has a good field of view, such as the example shown below.
Hold the NavVis VLX by the frame. Position the belt hook at the center of the marker.
Press the Control Point button on top of the NavVis VLX to add the location.
The user interface indicates the control point has been captured.
Capturing Wall Control Points at Head Height or Above
Tilt the NavVis VLX and let it rest on your shoulders. Hold the handle with one hand. Use the other hand to position the belt hook at the center of the marker.
Press the trigger button above the handle to add the location.
The user interface indicates the control point is added.
Capturing Wall Control Points at Hip Height
Hold the NavVis VLX frame with one hand and the handle with the other hand.
Align the mark on the belt hook with the center of the wall control point.
Press the trigger button above the handle to add the location.
The user interface indicates the control point is added. From the user interface, select Add to confirm or Cancel to undo and go back to the mapping screen.
Adding a Control Point
Tap the Control Point Icon

The device is paused, and the following screen is displayed.
Look for the unique ID number of the control point sticker you are adding, enter this Control Point ID number now.
Tap Next.
The following screen is displayed. Add the control point, refer here for more information about using the device to add a control point.
Tap Save.
The following screen is displayed indicating the control point has been added.
Note: There is additional advice on how many more Control Points need to be included to ensure accuracy. The quantity of control points necessary varies based on elements like the area size and the project's complexty.
Tap Continue to continue scanning
Managing Control Points
Tap the Control Point Icon.
The following screen is displayed, scroll down to the list of the control points.
Tap the control point you want to edit or delete.
The following screen is displayed. Tap the trash icon to delete the control point or the pen edit icon to edit the control point ID.
