Capturing the Control Point

It is important when you capture a control point, that the scanner of the device has a clear field of view of the surroundings. While capturing a control point, monitor the SLAM Status Bar displayed at the top of the Scanning Screen.

When capturing a control point, keep in mind the following:

The best method of capturing a control point is from the surface of a wall or floor, when the device is stable, with no movement, and the scanner of the device has a good field of view, such as the examples shown below.

  • A significant area of the device is in contact with the surface, providing stability.

  • The field of view for the scanner is free.

A woman uses a scanning device on a wall, checking for measurements or data.

A woman in a safety vest uses a device to inspect the floor.

In the example shown below, the corner of the device is in contact with the floor giving some stability, as well as the Control Point Pin (two points of contact). This is best for a corridor with little features, as this gives the scanner a free field of view to the beginning and end of the corridor. Take care that you do not block the scanner.

  • The device is stable.

  • There is a good field of view for the scanner.

A woman in a safety vest uses a device to inspect the floor.

In the example shown below, the body of the device is not in contact with the surface of the floor, only the Control Point Pin (one point of contact).

  • This makes it harder to keep the device stable.

  • But potentially the scanner has as good field of view, as the scanner is slightly higher.

When you have the device in a position that provides the best accuracy with stability, you are ready to add the control point.

Adding a Control Point

  1. Tap the Control Point Icon  .
The device is paused, and the following screen is displayed.

  2. Tap Add.

  1. Enter in the Control Point ID of the Control Point sticker.

  2. Tap Add.

  1. Press the trigger button above the handle to add the location.

  2. The screen indicates the control point has been added, and the device will make a sound.

  3. Fold away the Control Point Pin after you have captured the control point.

caution(1)Caution: Ensure that the Control Point Pin is folded back to the closed position to prevent damage or harm to yourself or others.

  1. The following screen is displayed. Tap Continue to continue scanning.

Managing Control Points

  1. Tap the Control Point Icon   and scroll down to the list of the control points in the current dataset.

  2. Tap the control point you want to manage.

  1. The following screen is displayed. From here you can delete or edit the Control Point ID.

For information on how to rename control points in post processing, refer to How to rename or delete a a control point in a dataset.
