Taking measurements
Use the Mark & Measure tool to take centimeter-accurate measurements in a Site. To access the tool, select Mark & Measure in the main menu. When working with measurements, you have the following capabilities:
From the Mark & Measure menu on the right, select the type of measurement you want to take: free, horizontal or vertical.
Take measurements in the 2D and 3D view. Measurements will be displayed in both views.
Adjust the size of the views.
Activate 2D layers in the 2D view.
Take measurements in panorama or Point cloud mode in the 3D view.
Use the Settings menu to display the magnifier, the auxiliary plane for area measurements, cursor coordinates, measurement names, and switch coordinates.
View the coordinates of the cursor and point measurements in different coordinate systems. You can switch between site coordinates and global coordinate reference systems and include information on point measurements while exporting.
View a list of taken measurements that are saved automatically if you have the Save measurements role. Click on a measurement in the list of taken measurements to go to that measurement.
Hide, delete, share, and display details about your measurements, refer here for more information.
Click on the download icon to download as .CSV or DVF files, refer here for more information.
Copy, paste, move, and rotate measurements
Place your cursor over a measurement in the 2D or 3D view to color, hide, or remove it.
Drag and drop measurements to group them in folders.
Rename a measurement and add a description.
Cropping tool
From the Mark & Measure tool,
Click the scissors icon on the top right of the screen to open the Crop View menu.
Crop the point cloud or/and the model by dragging the bounding box around the 2D map on the left side of the screen. or using handles in 3D view.
The Plane of Polygon, Rectangle, and Circle Measurements
Polygon and rectangle measurements happen on one plane. Depending on the measurement mode, the plane will be defined differently:
For free polygon measurements, you need three points to define a plane.
For horizontal polygon measurements, you need one point to define a plane.
For vertical polygon measurements, you need two points to define a plane.
For vertical and horizontal rectangle measurements you need two points to define a plane.
For vertical and horizontal circle measurements, you need two points to define a plane.
After defining the plane, the dotted blue line will show you the projection of the cursor on that plane. This projection will be used as a point in the measurement.
Taking a Free Measurement
Note: Cancel a measurement by pressing Esc.
Click Mark & Measure in the main menu.
From the Mark & Measure menu on the right, select Distance, Polygon, Orthogonal, Point, or Polyline as your measurement mode.
Left-click in the 2D or 3D view to start measuring.
A blue line follows your cursor from the start point and the distance displays.
Left-click at the desired end point to complete a distance, or orthogonal measurement. To complete a polygon measurement, bring the cursor back to the start point and left-click. To complete a point measurement, left-click once. To complete a polyline measurement, press Enter.
Measurements are saved automatically.
Note: To readjust a measurement after completing it, click on a measurement point and drag it to the location you want.
Taking a Horizontal or Vertical Measurement
Note: Cancel a measurement by pressing Esc.
Click Mark & Measure in the main menu.
From the Mark & Measure menu, select Distance, Polygon, Rectangle, or Circle as your measurement mode.
Left-click in the 2D or 3D view to start measuring.
A blue line follows your cursor from the start point. For a rectangle measurement, two parallel blue lines follow your cursor once you have selected the first two points for your measurement.
To complete a distance measurement, left-click at the desired end point. To complete a polygon measurement, bring the cursor back to the start point and left-click. To complete a rectangle or circle measurement, left-click once you have defined the right area.
Measurements will be saved automatically.
Note: To readjust a measurement after completing it, click on a measurement point and drag it to the location you want.
Using the Measurements Magnifier
Use the Magnifier to enhance the accuracy of your measurements.
Click Mark & Measure in the main menu.
From the Mark & Measure menu on the right, select a measurement mode.
Open the Settings menu in the top right corner of the 3D view.
Use the Magnifier toggle button to activate it.
Note: The Magnifier only works in the Panorama view.
In the panorama, left-click to place the start point of the measurement and left-click at the desired endpoint to complete the measurement.
Coloring Measurements
Click Mark & Measure in the main menu.
Hover over a measurement and click the eye dropper icon.
Choose a color from the options that appear and click on it.
Renaming Measurements or Folders and Adding Descriptions
Click Mark & Measure in the main menu.
Go to the Mark & Measure menu on the right.
Double-click the current name of the measurement or folder (it highlights blue) and enter a new name.
To add a description to the measurement, click the down arrow to the right of its name and enter a description.
Changes will be saved automatically.
Grouping Measurements
Click Mark & Measure in the main menu.
In the Mark & Measure menu, click the folder icon to create a new folder.
Drag and drop measurements into the folder.
Sharing Measurements
Click Mark & Measure in the main menu.
From the Mark & Measure menu, select the measurement(s) or the folder that you want to share by clicking the checkbox next to the measurement(s) or folder.
Click the Share icon.
After clicking the Share icon, all selected measurements will be listed in the Export Measurements dialog with the following information:
The measurement name.
The measurement distance.
A point measurement location.
A link to the measurement, which you can copy by right clicking or selecting the quick copy button next to the measurement address.
A screenshot of the measurement.
Click Export as PDF.
Downloading measurements
To help you with the conceptual planning phase of a project you can download the measurements taken as a .CSV or .DSV file.
The feature enables you to export measurements from NavVis IVION into widely recognized formats CSV and DXF, enhancing workflow efficiency and data integration:
CSV Export: Streamlines the process by eliminating manual data transfers from PDFs to Excel. This is particularly beneficial for facility managers, engineers, and designers who need accurate measurements for space management, site assessments, and other essential operations.
DXF Export: Facilitates seamless integration of measurement data into CAD applications, serving as foundational linework for modelling or site planning directly within IVION.
With the measurement selected, click the Download icon.
The Export measurements screen opens. Enter the following information.
Enter file name.
Select .CSV or .DXF format from the drop-down menu.
Select the Coordinate system:
Site coordinate system: This was the coordinate system used when the site was created.
Spatial reference system: Select from a drop down list the spatial reference system that the site uses.
Dataset: Select the same coordinate system that the dataset has.
Select the type of separation (Delimiter) you want (.CSV format only).
Select the number format (.CSV format only).
Click Export and the selected file will download.
