This document contains safety instructions notices for the NavVis MLX, hereafter referred to as the device.

General Device Safety Notices

Always follow these safety instructions when using the device.

The device is intended for professional use only. It should only be used by competent persons. A competent person is one who has been trained in the use of the NavVis device by NavVis or NavVis certified partners. Failure to comply with the advice given in this document violates the safety standards of the intended device usage. NavVis GmbH assumes no liability for failure to comply with this advice.

  • An individual should not use the device more than eight hours in one day. Use safe lifting technique. Stop using if you feel pain. Take regular breaks. Always use the supplied harness and adjust it so the weight is distributed correctly.

  • Avoid prolonged contact with warm surfaces. Switch off if you notice excessive heat as this may indicate an electrical fault. Do not cover the air vents as this will obstruct the airflow (there are two air vents in the middle and one at the bottom).

  • Do not open or dismantle. Do not attempt to repair. Do not expose to heavy rain. Keep the device in an upright position if it is exposed to rain. Do not use if there is a risk of condensation inside the device (such as when moving from a cold to a hot environment). Do not pierce the housing.

  • Always handle with care and pay attention to your surroundings. Avoid collisions. Do not drop. Do not crush. Do not use or store outside the recommended temperature range. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Do not allow use by untrained personnel. Do not use when damaged.

  • Be aware of traffic and acquaint yourself with the essential safety measures at the site. Respect safety measures in the scanning environments.

  • Always handle with care and pay attention to your surroundings. Avoid collisions. Do not drop. Do not crush. Do not use or store outside the recommended temperature range. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Do not allow use by untrained personnel. Do not use when damaged.

  • The device may obstruct the operator's field of vision. Pay attention to your surroundings (e.g. to avoid falling down stairs, manholes, or tripping).

  • The IP rating is only valid in certain scanning positions. Dry the device before changing its position.

  • Do not cover air intakes or outlets. This could lead to overheating and is a fire hazard.

  • Only use the device as instructed in the documentation as this could lead to protection impairment, causing damage to the device or harm to yourself or others. In addition, it should be noted that failure to comply with the procedures and advice provided in the documentation will render the device’s warranty invalid. NavVis GmbH assumes no liability for failure to comply with this advice.

  • When wearing the device, your center of gravity will change, take additional care to prevent accidents such as tripping or falling over.

  • Do not cover air intakes or outlets. This could lead to overheating and is a fire hazard.

  • If any repair has been made to the device, ensure that it is safe to operate.

  • Ensure the Harness System is comfortable and secure when wearing it, or it could (over extended use) lead to skin irritation or bruising.

Laser Safety Information

The NavVis MLX is equipped with a Class 1 laser scanner which is safe under normal working conditions.

Warning: Laser radiation.

  • For maximum self-protection, it is strongly warned that users do not look into the transmitting laser through a magnifying product (microscope, eye loupe, magnifying glass, etc.).

  • During operation, the entire cover lens can be regarded as the product's laser emitting window; looking at the cover lens can be regarded as looking into a transmitting laser.

Caution: Spinning components.

  • Moving parts inside the laser scanners can crush or cut.

  • Never remove the casing from the laser scanners.

  • Never use the device when the casing is cracked, loose, or burnt.

The device laser scanner fulfills the requirements of IEC 60825-1:2014, EN 60825-1:2014+A11:2021, 21 CFR 1040.10 and 1040.11 except for deviations (IEC 60825-1 Ed.3) pursuant to Laser Notice No.56, dated May 8, 2019.

 

 

There are no controls or adjustments on the sensor itself that are user accessible.

General Battery Safety Information

The Li/Ion Batteries contain a flammable electrolyte and must be handled according to these safety instructions.

Warning: Explosion /burn hazard

  • May cause severe injury or death; electrolyte can burn skin and eyes.

  • Follow the safety instructions.

Caution: General Li-Ion Battery and Charger Safety Information

  • Do not charge if the charger is damaged.

  • For professional use only.

  • Do not throw or drop, handle with care.

  • Do not attempt to open, disassemble, or repair.

  • Always keep away from water, heat, and fire.

  • Never leave the Battey charger and Li/Ion Battery unattended during charging.

  • Do not attempt to repair.

  • For indoor use.

  • Temperature usage range is 0°C (32 °F) to 40 °C (104 °F).

Caution: Li-Ion Battery Safety Information

  • Do not use if the battery is damaged.

  • Do not charge if the battery is damaged.

  • Do not subject the battery to mechanical shock, crush, impact, or puncture.

  • Do not expose the battery to water, fire or, excessive heat. Avoid storage in direct sunlight.

  • Do not open or dismantle the battery.

  • Do not short-circuit the battery.

  • Do not store batteries haphazardly in a box or drawer where they may short-circuit each other or be short-circuited by other metal objects.

  • If you buy replacement Li-Ion Batteries, do not remove its packaging until required for use.

  • Charge the Li-Ion Battery before initial use.

  • Use only a SMBus level 2 or 3 compliant charger for charging the Li-Ion Batteries.

  • Observe the plus (+) and minus (–) marks on battery and equipment and ensure correct use.

  • Keep the battery out of the reach of children.

  • Keep the battery clean and dry.

  • Use the battery only in the intended application.

  • When possible, remove the battery from the equipment when not in use.

  • Do not store a battery longer than 1 month in a discharged state.

  • Do not store a Li-Ion Battery longer than 1 year without recharging.

  • The battery must be recycled or disposed of properly.

  • If the battery should be leaking, do not allow the liquid to contact the skin or eyes. If you have been in contact, wash the affected area with plenty of water and seek medical advice.

Intended Use

  • The device is used for mapping/scanning indoor and outdoor environments, with the goal of creating a digital copy/twin of the reality.

  • The device is carried in front of the body, held with one or two hands, supported or unsupported by a Harness System.

  • Regular usage time is less than 45 minutes, before the battery needs to be exchanged.

  • During operation the product might also be lifted over the operators head for triggering a panoramic image, placed against the wall or on the floor to capture a "control point".
