Introduction to NavVis Desktop Processing

Desktop Processing is a data processing solution from NavVis for customers that only require On-Premise processing. Data is locally processed solely on a computer or similar device, unlike our premium data processing solution NavVis IVION Processing.

For hardware system requirements, refer here.

Release versioning strategy

From version 3.0.0 onwards the release strategy has been improved to to ensure better clarity and consistency in versioning. The format will remain major.minor.patch, but with the following improvements:

  • A major version increase will highlight changes that are not backwards-compatible.

  • Minor version updates will introduce new features.

  • Patch versions will be reserved for bug fixes and hotfixes.

We aim to enhance transparency and enable you to better anticipate the effects of each release.

What is NavVis Desktop Processing?

NavVis Desktop Processing is an on-premise data processing solution designed for customers who prefer or require local processing. Unlike NavVis IVION Processing (our premium cloud-based solution), all data is processed directly on your computer or a similar device, giving you full control over your data environment.

Who should use NavVis Desktop Processing?

This solution is ideal for users or organizations that:

  • Need to process data in secure, offline environments.

  • Prefer not to use cloud services due to internal policies.

  • Want a self-managed and fully local data processing setup.

What are the system requirements for Desktop Processing?

To ensure optimal performance, specific hardware requirements must be met. Please refer to the official hardware system requirements for full details.

How does the release versioning strategy work?

Starting with version 3.0.0, NavVis has adopted a clearer versioning strategy to improve consistency and transparency:

  • Major versions (X.0.0): Introduce breaking changes or non-backward-compatible updates.

  • Minor versions (X.X.0): Deliver new features and enhancements.

  • Patch versions (X.X.X): Contain bug fixes and hotfixes only.

This structure helps users better understand what to expect from each release.
