Article summary

Introduction

Problem description

When starting a measurement the magnifying glass picks points on a different plane that expected. Thus it is hard to get the right measurement.

E.g. When starting or ending a measurement on this shelf the magnifying glass shows the Point cloud on the wrong shelf i.e. the shelf behind (wines) instead of the intended shelf (snacks) is showed.

Root cause

The cause of this is the gaps between the 3D rendered points in IV. When the magnifying glass is used in IV, it displays the point cloud with the settings from the general IV point cloud mode. In general, the smaller the point size, the bigger are the gaps among them, and the likelihood your mouse pointer selects a point behind is higher

Troubleshooting Procedure

To correct this, change the point size in the Perspective appearance for point clouds to eg. 0.25 and try to perform the measurement again.
