The are two methods to travel through an airport with the NavVis MLX:
Travelling with the Shipping Case.
Travelling with the Backpack.
Travelling with the Shipping Case
Travelling through an airport with the Shipping Case is the most secure way of travelling with the NavVis MLX as it is very robust.
When travelling with the Shipping Case you must remove the Li-Ion batteries, refer below.
Travelling with the Backpack
Travelling with the Backpack through an airport is extremely easy.
Caution: When travelling with only the Backpack, it must always come with you into the cabin of the aircraft, and never checked-in into the hold.
You can carry the Li-Ion Batteries in the Backpack but there are special conditions, refer below.
Battery preparation before flying
Travelling through an airport with batteries is highly regulated, to avoid delays and breaching compliancy regulations read the following. Before you fly, it is best to check with the airline you are travelling with as each airline has their own rules and regulations. However, the following are standard guidelines:
The NavVis MLX Li-Ion Batteries must be taken on the plane as hand luggage. Put each Li-Ion Batteries into the protective foam of the Backpack.
The airline may require you to carry the battery safety data sheet.
Check the maximum watt hours per battery allowed as cabin baggage by your airline. Normally, batteries with less than 100 Wh can be carried without prior approval. This information is also useful when passing security.

Checklist Before Flying
The Li-Ion Batteries are secure in the protective foam of the Backpack.
Your hand luggage complies with your airline's weight limit.
There are no loose objects.
The Shipping Case or Backpack is securely closed.
Nothing is protruding from the Shipping Case or Backpack.
