How to setup an SSD with fingerprint security

Introduction

This procedure describes how you can secure dataset information on the Samsung Portable SSD T7 Touch (Samsung SSD) inserted into the NavVis VLX.

Scope

This procedure describes how to install and use the Samsung Portable SSD T7 Touch with NavVis VLX 1/2/3. For further information outside the scope of this document please refer to the Samsung User Guide on the product.

Setting up

This procedure describes the steps to install the device software necessary for enabling security mode on the SSD.

  1. Connect the device to your computer.

  1. Install the software found on the device or download it and install it from here.

  2. Navigate to the software (Samsung Portable SSD) you installed and launch it.

    • Windows OS: SamsungPortableSSD_Setup_Win_1.0.exe

    • Mac OS: SamsungPortableSSD_Setup_Mac_1.0.pkg

  3. Once the Installation is complete perform the following double-click on the Samsung Portable SSD Software 1.0 application icon on the desktop.

  4. Click Security with Password and Fingerprint. Then follow the on-screen set-up instructions.

Note: The security can be changed at a later date and requires formatting.

  1. Click Done.

    If the password is forgotten, you will need to have the T7 Touch restored to factory setting through the online Samsung service centers. Please keep it in mind that all user data placed in the T7 Touch will be lost by factory reset. Please be cautious not to forget your password.

Formatting the Samsung SSD

  1. Connect the SSD to your computer.

    1. Authenticate the SSD with your finger print to unlock the SSD.

    2. Once you have successfully unlocked the SSD, open File Explorer (windows) or Finder (Mac) and navigate to it on the left-hand side of the window.

    3. Right-click the folder to view the menu.

    4. Select Format.

  1. The Format USB Drive window is displayed.

    Under File system, select exFAT.

    Under Volume data, enter “data”

  2. Click Start.
