How to install specific version of NavVis Desktop Processing Software

Introduction

This document outlines the procedure for installing a specific version of an on-premise software package. This may be necessary if you no longer possess a valid SSL/DPL pair for obtaining updates from our repository, and the desktop processing software on your workstation is either damaged or incorrectly upgraded to a newer version.

Scope

On computers that require installation of NavVis Desktop Processing SW of a specific version.

Procedure

Determine the Processing Software Version

1. Check your NavVis Desktop Processing License (DPL) in the support portal.

2. Download the license file and send it to support@navvis.com and request an offline desktop software package.  More information can be found Managing Desktop Processing Licences.

   If you have issues finding the DPL, contact support@navvis.com with the NavVis device serial number and the previous software version that worked on your computer.

Download the offline desktop software package

1. A download link for the NavVis Desktop Processing Software will be provided to you by our support team.

2. Download the document via the provided link; when it opens, it appears like this on your Ubuntu system:

   
   

Installation Steps

1. Move the downloaded .tar.gz compressed file into the Desktop.

2. Right-click on the application icon and select Extract Here.

   

For terminal-only users without UI access, e.g. on a server, use the following command to extract the .tar file:

tar -xvzf ~/Desktop/install-navvis-stable-desktop-<version>.tar.gz

3. After the extraction, it will create three separate files. Right-click on the greyed out .desktop file icon, and select Allow Launching from the drop down menu.
   

4. The icon will then be colored indicating that the application can be launched, double-click on the icon to start the installation process.
   

5. The computer’s sudo password will be asked first:
   

6. Choose OK or Yes to the end user agreements to complete the installation.
   

7. Use the Tab key to switch between Yes and No and the Enter key to confirm selection.
   
   

8. Once the installation is complete, you will see the following lines prompting you press Enter to exit the installation application, and to reboot the computer.
   

9. Reboot the workstation before you verify the installation status and start processing.

10. You can verify if the NavVis Desktop Processing Software was successfully installed in the correct version, by opening SiteMaker and navigate to Help>Version:
