Introduction
This document describes how to install an on-premise software package, that supports Navvis M6 data processing. If you need to install a certain Desktop Processing SW version for VLX, the same procedures apply to the page.
Note: The last supported version for M6 Desktop Processing SW is v2.24.5, released on Jan. 22nd, 2025.
Note: There can only be 1 single NavVis Desktop Processing SW installed on each Ubuntu OS.
Note If you need to install NavVis Desktop Processing SW for the NavVis VLX or NavVis MLX in a newer version of your M6 Desktop Processing SW, you will need to set up a new Ubuntu system or workstation.
Determine the Processing Software Version
Check your NavVis M6 Desktop Processing License (DPL) in the support portal.
Download the license file and send it to support@navvis.com and request an on-premise desktop software package, more information can be found here.
If you have issues finding the DPL, contact support@navvis.com with the NavVis M6 serial number and the previous software version that worked on your computer.
From v2.22.13 onwards, NavVis Desktop Processing SW is only supported on Ubuntu 22.04.

Installation Steps
Note: Your desktop is still required to have internet access to the official Ubuntu repository. The offline package only includes software developed by NavVis, other prerequisite software needs to be downloaded directly from the official Ubuntu repository.
Move the downloaded .tar.gz compressed file into the Desktop,
Right-click on the application icon and select Extract Here.
For terminal-only users without UI access, e.g. on a server, use the following command to extract the .tar file:
tar -xvzf ~/Desktop/install-navvis-stable-desktop-<version>.tar.gz
After the extraction, it will create three separate files. Right-click on the greyed out .desktop file icon, and select Allow Launching from the drop down menu.
The icon will then be colored indicating that the application can be launched, double-click on the icon to start the installation process.
The computer’s sudo password will be asked first:
Choose OK or Yes to the end user agreements to complete the installation.
Use the Tab key to switch between Yes and No and the Enter key to confirm selection.
Once the installation is complete, you will see the following lines prompting you press Enter to exit the installation application, and to reboot the computer.
Reboot the workstation before you verify the installation status and start processing.
You can verify if the NavVis Desktop Processing Software for NavVis M6 was successfully installed in the correct version, by opening SiteMaker and navigate to Help>Version:
