Navigating to Dataset Management

Go to Site Setup > Dataset Management.

What can I do in Dataset Management?

The Dataset Management area is where you manage the dataset you have in NavVis IVION.

View details of the datasets.
- View the number of datasets, maps, nodes, edges.
- View the number of counted panoramic images.
Load and unload datasets into Alignment Bundles.
Delete datasets and alignment bundles.
Manage Alignment bundle security settings.
Navigate directly to IVION Processing to transfer processed dataset sets.
Upload point clouds from an external source.
Upload 360° panoramic images taken with a camera that can capture 360°.
Generating Maps.

Transferring NavVis Datasets from IVION Processing

Perform the following procedure to transfer processed datasets from IVION Processing to your IVION Instance, they will then display in Dataset Management.

Go to IVION Processing>Processed data.
Select the dataset you want to add to Dataset Management.
Click Add to dataset management.
The screen displays ADDING.
Click Dataset management to go to Dataset management.
The Dataset Management screen is displayed, showing the added Dataset without bundle.
Note: The transfer process may take a few moments for large dataset transfers. The dataset will only display once the dataset transfer has finished.
Uploading NavVis Datasets from your Hard Drive
1. Drag and drop data files to the upload field or click Upload inside the field.

Individual datasets will be listed under Datasets Without Bundle.
Bundle files will be listed under Alignment Bundles.
Supported formats are .bundle, NVD, .XML
2. While the files are uploading the progress bar will display the percentage and options to pause or cancel the upload.

Uploading Point Clouds that have been externally created

Use the following procedure to upload point cloud data that has come from external software or a non-NavVis scanning device into NavVis IVION.

Note: Navvis IVION supports the following point cloud formats: .ptx, .ply, .pts, .xyz, and .e57. For .pts files, the range of intensity values has to be between -2048 to 2047.

Drag and drop files to the upload field or click Upload inside the field.
Select one of the following options:
- Select Site coordinate system to import the point cloud.
- Select Spatial reference system to choose a projected, metric system for the dataset(s).
  Start typing a name and select the correct spatial reference system that displays.
- Select Pick location on map to choose a location for the dataset(s) and click Next.
  
  Pick a location for the point cloud on the map displayed. Search for an address or coordinates and, if necessary, adjust the location of the location picker and click Import.

Uploading NavVis Datasets from Desktop Processing

If you have processed your data with the Desktop Processing Software, you can upload individual .nvd datasets from the datasets_web folder.

What features are available for external point cloud data imported into NavVis IVION?

When importing point cloud data from an external source the following functionality is supported in NavVis IVION

Aligning the point clouds
Creating POIs in them.
Measuring distances between any two points.
Navigating through the point clouds by double-clicking.
Changing the appearance and quality settings of the point clouds.

The following features are only available for imported point clouds with Normals. In NavVis IVION, {{glossary.Normals}} can be generated during the upload of .e57 files with sensor origins.

Note: Normal generation is not supported for file formats other than .e57.

Use automatic fine-alignment with imported point clouds.
Automatically generate 2D maps or a navigation graph for the imported point clouds.

Importing 360° Panoramic Images

NavVis IVION Professional and NavVis IVION Enterprise only.

This article describes the importing procedure for images from 360° cameras into NavVis IVION.

If a dataset is captured with a NavVis device at the same location, the images will be automatically positioned at the place of capture.

Caution: Before uploading images, ensure that you have captured high-quality images using a 360° camera capable of capturing images in the equirectangular format.

These cameras are generally affordable and easy to use. NavVis IVION must be at release 11.7.0.

Note: This feature is currently available in beta version, indicating that we are still testing and evaluating its functionality. In rare circumstances, there may be limitations in performance, which will be addressed in future updates.

Create a Visual Index

Navigate to Site Setup>Dataset Management.
In the bundle where you want to add the 360° panoramic images, create a Visual Index, refer here for more information.
Publish the site, refer here for more information.

Note: When updating a dataset with 360° panoramic images, you only need to create a visual index once.

Upload the 360° panoramic images

Upload the 360° panoramic images from your device into NavVis IVION using the Upload or drop files here method just like a regular dataset. Each collection of uploaded images will be converted into a 360° Dataset.

Upload section for datasets, point clouds, or 360-degree images with supported formats listed.

Click Load to load the 360° Dataset containing the 360° panoramic images.
Options:

Add the 360° Dataset to a bundle.
Create a new bundle.
Mix them in a bundle with point cloud dataset.
Leave them as a dataset without bundle.

Publish the site draft, refer here for more information.
While in explorer mode, 360° Location Markers are displayed on the site.

Note: As there is no point cloud associated with 360° panoramas the following features cannot be used:

What’s the difference between Datasets without Bundle and Alignment Bundles?

The two types of data serve different purposes within NavVis IVION:

Single Datasets:
- These are individual datasets that have been uploaded to NavVis IVION. They represent specific sets of data captured during scanning, such as point clouds or panoramic images.
- Single datasets can be managed individually, meaning they can be loaded, unloaded, or deleted separately from other datasets.
Alignment Bundle:

Most of the functions and features of Navvis IVION work with alignment bundles:

An alignment bundle is a collection of datasets that have been grouped together after being aligned. The purpose of creating a bundle is to save the locations of these datasets so that they are relative to each other.
Bundles can be used to create navigation graphs and maps for the associated datasets, facilitating navigation and visualization within the site.
Operations on a bundle, such as loading or unloading, affect all datasets within the bundle collectively.

In summary, single datasets are individual data files, while an alignment bundle is a group of aligned datasets used for creating navigation and mapping features within NavVis IVION.

Working with Alignment Bundles

Alignment Bundles are collections (bundles) of related datasets that can be grouped together. The following describes how you create, edit and manage Alignment Bundles.

Creating an Alignment Bundle

Go to Site Setup > Dataset Management.
Click Create new bundle.
Enter a name for the alignment bundle.
Set the View and Edit permissions for the alignment bundle. This gives the respective groups permission to view or edit the navigation graph and maps associated with the alignment bundle.
To add datasets to the alignment bundle, select the datasets you want to add from the Datasets without bundle column and click the arrow pointing left.
To remove datasets from the alignment bundle, select the datasets you want to remove from the Datasets in bundle column and click the arrow pointing right.
Click OK to save the alignment bundle.
If after you create the Alignment Bundle you want to edit it, click the Edit pencil icon next to the alignment bundle name.

Importing an Alignment Bundle

Go to Site Setup > Dataset Management.
Drag and drop alignment to the upload field or click Upload inside the field.
Select and upload the bundle file from your hard drive.

Downloading an Alignment Bundle

You can download an alignment bundle together with any artifacts (navigation graph and maps) associated with the bundle to archive for example.

Go to Settings > Download bundles.
Click the download icon next to the alignment bundle you want to download.
Save the alignment bundle to your computer. The file can now be archived

Managing Access Rights for an Alignment Bundle

Perform the following procedure to change view or edit rights for an Alignment bundle.

Go to Site Setup> Dataset Management.
Click the pencil icon next to the alignment bundle you want to manage.
Click the View drop-down menu to change view access rights.
Click the Edit drop-down menu to change the edit access rights.
Click Save.
Click Publish when you have finished.

Deleting an Alignment Bundle or Dataset without a bundle

Go to Site Setup > Dataset Management.
Click the Unload button against the corresponding Alignment bundle or Dataset without a bundle.
Once it is unloaded the Delete button is displayed. Click Delete to remove it from the site.

Loading datasets and bundles to your site

The datasets and bundles now need to made available to your NavVis sites. You can add them as a bundle or as individual datasets, refer here for more information about the difference between dataset bundles and single datasets.

The dataset management screen is split into Datasets without bundles (single datasets) and Alignment bundles.

If you uploaded datasets as part of a bundle, they will be listed under Alignment Bundles. Click the + Load button and they will be loaded into your site.
If you uploaded datasets individually, they will be listed under Datasets Without Bundle. Click the + Load button and they will be loaded into your site.

Click on the + Load button next to the dataset or bundle you want to load on to your site
Select one of the following options:
- Select Site coordinate system to import the dataset into the previously defined coordinate system.
- Select Pick location on map to choose a new location for the dataset and click Next.
  Pick a location for the dataset on the map. Search for an address or coordinates and, if necessary, adjust the location of the location picker, and click Import.

Removing {{glossary.Dataset}}s from the Alignment Bundle

Click the Edit pencil button next to the bundle.
The Edit bundle screen displays. Select the dataset you want to remove.
Click the arrow to remove the dataset out of the bundle.
To delete the selected dataset, click the Delete button.
To delete a dataset that is not part of a bundle, click the Delete button next to the dataset.

What steps are involved in uploading datasets from my hard drive?

You can drag and drop data files into the upload field or click Upload inside the field to start the process.

How can I view the details of my datasets in Dataset Management?

You can view the number of datasets, maps, nodes, edges, and counted panoramic images in the Dataset Management area.

What should I do if I want to remove a dataset from an alignment bundle?

You can click the Edit pencil button next to the bundle, select the dataset you want to remove, and then click the arrow to remove it.
