Capturing Panoramas

You can change the camera settings while scanning.

1. Tap Settings from the main screen or scanning screen.

2. Tap the Camera option. The Camera settings screen opens.
   

Panorama capture modes

NavVis CLX offers three panorama capture modes:

• Manual mode: You press the trigger to capture panoramas manually, for precise placement.

• Auto panorama capture mode: The device decides when to trigger based on movement and distance.

• Continuous panorama capture mode: The device captures panoramas at a steady cadence while you keep moving.

Manual panorama capture

In manual mode, you decide exactly when and where to capture each panorama. This gives you full control over image placement, with maximum clarity and minimal motion blur. It works best for precise image placement at points of interest, complex geometry, tight spaces, signage or asset IDs, thresholds, and stair entries or exits.

1. Select Manual in the Capture mode setting.
   

How to capture a 270-degree panorama in manual mode

1. Hold the NavVis CLX steady in the harness system in the normal scanning position, with the device in front of you.
   

2. Stand still, any movement can cause blurriness.

3. Press the trigger button on the handle once, briefly.

4. Listen for the click. A white three-quarter circle icon appears on the screen to show the location and direction of the 270° panorama.

How to capture a 360-degree panorama in manual mode

1. Stand still and make sure you have enough space above your head.

2. Lift the NavVis CLX above your head, positioning the base close to your forehead. This position keeps you out of the captured images while maximizing coverage.
   

3. Press and hold the trigger button on the handle for longer than usual (more than approximately 6 seconds) until you hear a camera shutter sound confirming the panorama capture.

4. A preview of the panorama appears on the device display, showing the three images from the cameras. On the map, a red circle icon marks the location of the 360° panorama capture.

5. If the automatic preview is distracting, disable it in the camera Settings in the scanning UI.

Auto panorama capture mode

1. Select Auto in the Capture mode setting.
   

2. Configure the distance between auto triggers to match your environment.

3. Start scanning, moving at a steady pace.

4. Each time you hear the beep, stop and hold the NavVis CLX steady until the device captures the image. Then continue until the scan is complete.

Note

This mode works best for large, open environments where even coverage matters more than exact image placement.

Continuous panorama capture mode

Continuous panorama capture mode enables uninterrupted scanning from start to finish. You don't need to stop to capture panoramas — the device captures them automatically while you move, without interrupting the scanning workflow. This mode works best when minimizing time on site is the priority and the environment is predictable, for example long, straight paths or large, open halls.

How to use continuous panorama mode

Complete the following steps to use continuous panorama capture mode with 270° panoramas:

1. Select Continuous in the Capture mode setting.
   

2. Walk steadily at a consistent pace. Avoid sharp turns and sudden stops near capture moments to reduce the risk of motion blur.

Note:

Use continuous mode primarily on straight, uniform routes. Switch back to Auto or Manual mode for complex areas, tight corners, or points of interest where exact placement matters.

Choosing the modes

When you plan a scan, choose the panorama capture mode that best balances speed, image quality, and the planned scanning path for your environment.

Note:

Keep a minimum distance of 1 m from walls and other objects to achieve high panorama image quality.
