Can I use measured GPS coordinates in mapping / processing?

Prev Next

In outdoor mappings, sometimes I have GPS measured coordinates, can I easily use that with my device during mapping or afterwards in post-processing?

Solution applies to: < Navvis processing software, on-prem & cloud >

We cannot directly import the GPS coordinates into our processing pipeline, as the units in processing uses the Cartesian coordinate system (x,y,z) and GPS is using geographic coordinates in e.g. long & lat.

Workaround:

  1. During mapping, take a note of the control point from the device and also the GPS device.

  2. Transform those noted GPS coordinates to local metric system starting with a base point (0.0.0).

  3. in post-processing stage, use the transferred coordinates in local metric system in Navvis software, similar workflow as using other control points in processing.
