A
Alignment Bundle
The information necessary to describe a set of datasets, especially where the datasets are located in the world and relative to each other.
Application Programming Interface (API)
An application programming interface (API) is a way for two or more computer programs to communicate with each other. IVION provides a REST API and a frontend API.
B
Building Information Modeling (BIM)
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a process supported by various tools, technologies and contracts involving the generation and management of digital representations of physical and functional characteristics of places.
Bundle
Set of datasets. Apart from datasets, it also contains alignment information (how datasets are positioned with respect to each other), maps, and a site model.
C
Computer Aided Design (CAD)
Computer-aided design is the use of computers to aid in the creation, modification, analysis, or optimization of a design.
Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM)
A coordinate measuring machine is a device that measures the geometry of physical objects by sensing discrete points on the surface of the object with a probe.
Cloud Computing
Cloud computing is the delivery of computing services - servers, storage, databases, networking, software, analytics, intelligence and more - over the Internet ("the cloud") to offer faster innovation, flexible resources, and economies of scale.
D
Dataset
A dataset is a piece of a site, the result of a continuous recording with a NavVis mapping device or the result of an imported point cloud. Datasets can contain panoramic images and point clouds.
Digital twin
The digital twin is the virtual mirror image of a machine, a production line, or a complete factory. This digital replica not only supports the analysis, design, or evaluation of processes, but also helps with the overall planning of production or logistics processes.
E
Enterprise Cloud
The Enterprise Cloud is an environment similar to NVC that is specifically created for one of our enterprise customers to host their IVION instances.
European Petroleum Survey Group (EPSG)
The European Petroleum Survey Group is a standardized system of globally unique, 4- to 5-digit key numbers for identifying map projections and other geodetic data sets, such as reference ellipsoids. Probably the most frequently used EPSG code is 4326 for the World Geodetic System 1984 (WGS 84), a worldwide geodetic reference system on the basis of which the Global Positioning System (GPS) also works.
F
Feature Flag
Feature flags, also known as feature toggles or feature switches, are used to enable or disable certain features or functionalities in an application, without deploying new code.
G
Guest User
An IVION user that did not log in with user credentials or via OIDC.
I
Internet of Things (IoT)
The Internet of Things describes physical objects with sensors, processing ability, software, and other technologies that connect and exchange data with other devices and systems over the Internet or other communications networks.
IVION Instance
An IVION instance is a copy of the IVION software running on a hosting server. An IVION instance has a database which contains the associated datasets, users, and more. That data is accessible via the instance URL.
L
Location marker
Location markers are the white discs displayed on the floor in the panoramic images. They correspond to the locations where the mapping device captured panoramic images. Clicking on one of them moves the panorama view to the location it stands for.
M
Map view
In the map view, you can see the 2D maps of the site and where the site is located on a world map. By default, the map view is displayed in the mini view, which is the small window in the bottom right corner of the IVION interface. Clicking on the two small arrows on the bottom right corner of the screen switches between panorama view and map view.
N
NavVis Cloud
NavVis Cloud can mean multiple things:
The actual application, found under iv.navvis.com
NVC as a whole: our Software as a Solution (SaaS) stack to make IVION be available for customers in the cloud at the click of a button.
NavVis Enterprise Cloud: the enterprise specific offering. Basically, a copy of our cloud but for enterprise customers, therefore separated for security reasons and managed manually, not by the NVC application.
NavVis IVION Processing
Functionality that allows processing of data recorded by NavVis devices. Processing recorded datasets is necessary to be able to use the data in an application like IVION.
Normals
Normals are perpendicular to the tangent plane line at a particular point on the surface. They yield especially useful information about a curved surface's characteristics but conversely can tell us much about the planarity of a flat or angular surface also. Normals can tell us the rate of change of curvature when a surface has an angular departure and tell us just how perfectly flat something is.
O
OpenID Connect
OpenID Connect is an open standard and decentralized authentication protocol promoted by the non-profit OpenID Foundation. It allows users to be authenticated by co-operating sites using a third-party identity provider (IDP) service.
P
Panorama view
In the panorama view, you can explore your data in a seamless experience. In this view, you can see both panoramic images and point clouds. By default, the main view of the IVION interface shows the panorama view.
Point cloud
A three-dimensional representation of an environment, made up of many points. A point is defined by x, y and z coordinates, and it may or may not contain RGB, an intensity value, and normals.
Point of Interest (POI)
A point of interest is a marker placed in IVION that refers to objects or areas (e.g., cafeteria, coffee machine). POIs can store detailed information about the building features or locations they stand for. POIs appear in IVION as interactive icons that provide more information when users click on them.
POI details panel
The user interface panel which displays the POI description and buttons for sharing, editing, and routing.
POI description
The (HTML) text describing what a point of interest stands for.
Post-processed dataset
Aggregate of data generated from a recorded dataset by running a post-processing task.
R
Recorded dataset
Aggregate of data recorded during mapping with a NavVis mapping device. The data needs to be processed to be consumable by applications like IVION.
Registered user
User that has a personal account with individual sign-in credentials.
Resource server
A resource server is an OAuth 2.0 API server. To secure access-protected resources, it verifies access tokens from your app and authorizes access to your API. It verifies the issuer based on the token signature, validity based on token expiration, and access level based on the scopes in token claims.
Routing
Wayfinding between any two locations in IVION. Requires a fully-connected navigation graph.
S
SaaS
Software as a service (or SaaS) is a way of delivering applications over the Internet—as a service. Instead of installing and maintaining software, you simply access it via the Internet, freeing yourself from complex software and hardware management. SaaS applications are sometimes called Web-based software, on-demand software, or hosted software. Whatever the name, SaaS applications run on a SaaS provider's servers. The provider manages access to the application, including security, availability, and performance.
Site
Site refers to a complex of one or more buildings displayed in an IVION instance. For example, the Munich Airport would be one site. An instance can contain multiple sites. Each site consists of one or more datasets.
A site defines a site coordinate system. Datasets can be aligned (transformed) into this common coordinate system. Furthermore, if the location of the site is geo-referenced (the site coordinate system is geo referenced), the recorded and processed datasets can be geo- referenced.
Site Model
A site model is a three-dimensional model which clusters information by assigning meaningful names to clearly defined areas in the space of a site. With a site model, you can define and name the buildings, floors, rooms, or even more fine-grained spaces, of a site in IVION. Among other things, this information is used to create the floor changer and enrich POI search.
T
Task manager
Represents a gateway for all user activities related to management of tasks. It is possible to submit a task, query a task about its status, and cancel a task.
U
User authentication
Instance key module that enables adding users with adjustable permissions, as well as using an Active Directory (LDAP) server, OpenID Connect, or pre-authentication.
V
Visual index
The visual index is data consumed by the Indoor Location Server in order to relate pictures to locations in the scanned area. The goal is to be able to take a photo inside of a scanned environment and be able to get the position where this photo was taken. The Indoor Location Server is what does this, and the visual index is how it does that. The visual index needs to be generated through the usage of a tool called visual-index-generator.
W
Web-processed dataset
Aggregate of data generated from post-processed dataset by running a web-processing task.
