Issue description
In rare cases, the NavVis device comes on with a black screen without showing the mapping UI or Ubuntu desktop.
Potential causes:
Display panel damaged.
System might be corrupted due to, e.g.
damaged system disk during formatting
interruption while updating software (possibly, the kernel installation was interrupted and the system cannot be booted correctly)
Troubleshooting procedure
Display panel damaged by impact or usage
A typical indication of this is that the display is only partially powered, with a yellowish color, for example:
A similar issue indicates that the display was damaged by some kind of impact. If the display was damaged by impact, this is not covered under warranty.
A product failure caused by an internal quality issue would be a burn-in effect of OLED panels, examples and explanation can be found here.
System corruption scenario
After powering on, check if you can see anything displayed on the screen, e.g. HDMI signal, Intel NUC logo, Ubuntu grub screen, or if you can go into BIOS etc.
Try to boot the system with another Linux kernel, to see if the default one is corrupted.
If you see the following bootloader screen on your VLX, attach a USB keyboard to the NavVis VLX and press ? and choose "Advanced Options for Ubuntu"
Try booting the NavVis VLX in different Linux kernel versions (Not recovery mode). If you managed to boot into Ubuntu, this usually indicates a corrupted linux kernel installation
Update your software and reboot your device.
If you don't see this bootloader screen, keep pressing "Shift" or "Esc" while powering on, especially after the Intel logo was displayed.

If after this step you still cannot boot into the Ubuntu, this could indicate a deeper issue with the system or the disk. Reach out to your Support Engineer for further troubleshooting.
