Introduction
NavVis IVION offers a convenient way for users to export cropped point clouds from their projects using the Crop & Download tool. Detailed instructions for this process can be found in our technical documentation.
When you initiate a download by clicking the “Download” button in the user interface, regardless of the selected file format, the following process occurs:
NavVis IVION begins generating a fused point cloud in the background. This process is indicated by a spinning wheel icon in the lower left corner of the screen.
It is important to keep your device active and the browser window open while the point cloud is being prepared.
Once the point cloud generation is complete, NavVis IVION will automatically trigger the download, which will be managed by your web browser.
After the download is complete, the point cloud file will be saved to your local computer. You can then import it into third-party software. For specific guidance on importing and using the file, please refer to the documentation of the 3D software that you are using.
When downloading from NavVis IVION fails
Downloading large files via your browser can sometimes be problematic due to various issues like slow download speeds, interruptions, or corrupted files. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshooting these issues:
1. Check Your Internet Connection
Speed Test: Run a speed test to ensure your internet connection is stable and fast enough for large downloads.
Wi-Fi vs. Ethernet: If possible, switch from Wi-Fi to a wired Ethernet connection to reduce the chances of disconnections or slow speeds.
2. Browser-Specific Issues
Update Browser: Ensure your browser is up to date. Outdated browsers can have bugs that affect downloads.
Clear Cache and Cookies: Accumulated cache and cookies can sometimes cause issues. Clear them and try the download again.
Disable Extensions: Some browser extensions, particularly ad blockers or download managers, can interfere with file downloads. Disable them temporarily.
3. Check for Download Resumption
Download Managers: Use a download manager that supports resuming broken downloads. Many browsers have this feature built-in, but a dedicated download manager like Free Download Manager or Internet Download Manager may provide better results.
Resuming Interrupted Downloads: If your download was interrupted, right-click the download in the browser's download manager (if it supports this) and select "Resume."
4. Check Disk Space
Free Space: Ensure that your hard drive has enough free space to accommodate the download.
Write Permissions: Verify that you have write permissions to the destination folder where the file is being downloaded.
5. Try a Different Browser or Device
Alternate Browsers: If the issue persists, try downloading the file using a different browser (e.g., Firefox, Chrome, Edge).
Different Device: If possible, try downloading the file on a different device to see if the problem is device-specific.
6. Adjust Browser Settings
Timeout Settings: Some browsers may have timeout settings that cause long downloads to fail. Adjust these settings if possible, or try a download manager that can handle long-duration downloads.
Network Settings: Check if any proxy settings or VPNs are causing slowdowns or interruptions.
7. Antivirus/Firewall Interference
Temporarily Disable: Sometimes, antivirus software or firewalls can block or slow down downloads. Temporarily disable them to see if the issue is resolved, but remember to re-enable them afterward.
Add Exceptions: Add an exception in your antivirus or firewall settings for the browser you are using.
