Introduction
Problem description
When a Dataset is updated in a NavVis IVION Instance (eg. processed with a newer software version), then in Dataset Alignment or in the Pointcloud View parts of the dataset can be visible twice.
Root cause: the BIN files in the webcloud directories contain the Point cloud data. To lower the load on the server when serving these files, we pre-compress them into .bin/.gz files.
Note: We create the pre-compressed file only if the bin file is > 1024 bytes.
This can lead to the following situation:
Dataset is reprocessed (e.g. to take advantage of software improvements)
Web-processing is re-run and creates a new output directory
Some BIN files may now be 1024 or smaller, hence no .gz file is created for them
When you upload such a dataset into an instance without deleting the previous dataset, the data is merged. For the BIN files that no longer have .gz files, there will still be (now outdated) .gz files. Their content shows up in NavVis IVION as artifacts like duplicated points.
Troubleshooting procedure
When updating a dataset to a newer version in NavVis IVION, remove it first from the Bundle, unload it and finally delete it.
Upload it again.
