Procedure

A Site Model is crucial for generating 2D maps and assigning regions to point clouds. Effective management of this process ensures accurate mapping and minimizes errors, such as the creation of holes in 2D maps.

Understanding 2D Map Generation

The generation of 2D maps involves analyzing point clouds and assigning them to specific regions. Our Site Model tool responsible for this process uses a grid system to evaluate point clouds.

Leaving the bottom portion of the point cloud out of the 1.8 meter grid row will result in holes once the map is generated.

Key Concepts

  1. Grid Row Analysis:

  • Our Site Model tool evaluates the first grid row of a floor, which represents 1.8 meters in height.

  • Any point cloud within this row is utilized to create the 2D map.

  1. Hole Creation:

  • Holes in the 2D map occur if there is an elevation change (greater than 1.8 meters) on the defined floor.

  • Data points not within the evaluated grid row result in empty spaces or holes on the 2D map.

Avoiding holes in 2D maps

To avoid holes in 2D maps due to elevation changes, follow these steps:

  1. Define a New Floor:

  • Create a new floor in the Site Model.

  • Make sure that the grid row covers the elevation change in the floor.

  • Use the same name for the new floor as the original one.

The newly generated map will then fill in those holes.

Our Site Model tool will interpret the newly defined floor rows as part of the same floor. This integration allows the Site Model tool to treat individual rows collectively, filling in any gaps or holes created by elevation differences.

Comprehensive 2D maps are viewed from a top-down perspective. Each defined floor row, when treated as part of the same floor, ensures a gap-free map.
