Yes you can
It should be noted for NavVis VLX 2 and VLX 3 the batteries that come as standard with the device are IP-rated (water and dust resistance) in alignment with the device. These can only be purchased directly from NavVis, only NavVis batteries are waterproof. To purchase additional NavVis batteries for your device we recommend contacting your Account Manager.
However, non-waterproof batteries can still be used with the device.
Any V-mount type battery can be installed and used with the device, but these batteries are used at your own risk. Make sure the batteries are within NavVis specifications and provide a minimum of 10 Ah. Refer to the specifications section of the technical documentation.
Bebob® batteries
NavVis recommends Bebob® V98micro batteries which are similar to the ones used in the NavVis VLX devices.
For more information about these batteries refer here.
When using Bebob® batteries on your NavVis VLX, if no charge status is shown in the mapping UI, it is then important that you change the communication mode.
Press the Check Status button on the side of the battery for 10 seconds.
Usually, the color of the LED will also change, e.g. from red to blue.
After the correct mode is set, the screen on the NavVis VLX will also display the correct battery charge.
bebob batteries are available with a higher capacity, which are compatible to NavVis VLX (e.g. a V150 or V200), however the following must be noted:
Mostly they are NOT ALLOWED on airlines, refer here.
They are larger in size, so they cannot be stored in the VLX box.
They are heavier and therefore there is more weight on your body during scanning.
The screen will likely display the correct percentage of charge, but the screen will not report the remaining battery time correctly.
IP-rated batteries are not available from Bebob®, but can only be purchased from NavVis directly.
Other third party batteries
When buying other types of batteries, the following should be considered:
We have not tested third-party batteries, so it is not confirmed that they work.
We do not know if and how long they would take to charge using the NavVis VLX charger.
Any damage to the device caused by third-party batteries will not be covered by the NavVis warrant.
NavVis therefore does not recommend buying these.
DISCLAIMER:
Batteries purchased from NavVis with or without the NavVis VLX are considered consumables and excluded from device warranty according to NavVis General Terms and Conditions.
In case of any issues with or caused from batteries directly purchased from NavVis, please contact NavVis Support or your local NavVis reseller.
