Collision warning in bad weather

Prev Next

Issue description

The device displays a false collision warning when you are mapping outdoors when the environment is very cold, foggy, or with small raindrops. The freezing/humid weather can cause drops of water or ice to condensate on the laser glass surface, creating perceived obstacles which can trigger collision warnings

Troubleshooting procedure

1 Check the environmental operating conditions

Check that you are operating the device within the specifications of the environmental operating conditions.

2 Check the device indoors

Bring your device back to the room temperature and let the surfaces dry for some time. Start a scanning indoors and observe if the collision warnings still exists.

  • If the collision warnings no longer display indoors, this indicates the hardware and software are in a good status.

  • If collision warnings repeatedly display indoors, contact NavVis support

Note: An operating temperature of 0°C (32°f) with a maximum -30°C (-22°f) is achievable when the following is true:

  • The device has been switched on for 20 minutes at a minimum temperature of 0°C (32°f).

  • The duration of scanning is kept to a minimum of 20 minutes.

  • The atmospheric conditions are calm (no wind).
