Article summary

Introduction

Purpose

In outdoor mappings, sometimes user has GPS measured coordinates, can one easily use that with IMMS during mapping or afterwards in post-processing?

Scope

Solution applies to: < Navvis processing software, on-prem & cloud >

Procedure

We cannot directly import the GPS coordinates into our processing pipeline, as the units in processing is using the Cartesian coordinate system (x,y,z) and GPS is using geographic coordinates in e.g. long & lat.

Workaround:

  1. During mapping, take the same control point for IMMS and the GPS device

  2. then transform those GPS captured coordinates to local metric system starting with a base point (0.0.0).

  3. in post-processing stage, use the transferred coordinates in local metric system in Navvis software, similar workflow as using other control points in processing
