# Buying extra external SSDs for your NavVis device

For very large projects or multiple employees, additional SSDs might be necessary to improve the timing for data transfer and post-processing.

> [!NOTE]
> **Note:** For NavVis VLX 2 (G10-xxx) and VLX 3, the SSDs that come as standard with the device are IP-rated (water resistant). This is achieved by using a rubber cover, this type of SSD is not an industry standard but can be purchased from NavVis by contacting your Account Manager.

> [!NOTE]
> **Note:** The IP cover can also be changed from one SSD of the same type to another.

> [!NOTE]
> **Note:** If the rubber cover is not applied on the SSD the IP-rating is not ensured this must be be considered by NavVis in case of a reported related defect of the device.
