# Introduction

NavVis SiteMaker is NavVis's desktop application for post-processing and web-processing scan data captured by NavVis mapping devices. It prepares scan recordings for upload to NavVis IVION by running NavVis Desktop Processing on your local workstation.

## What SiteMaker does

SiteMaker provides a project-based interface for running two processing pipelines on recorded datasets.

**Post-processing** converts raw scan recordings (`datasets_rec`) into processed data (`datasets_proc`). This includes point cloud generation, colorization, and control point integration.

**Web-processing** prepares post-processed data for NavVis IVION by generating streamable point clouds and multi-resolution panoramic image tiles (`datasets_web`). For more information, see [Web Processing](https://knowledge.navvis.com/docs/web-processing-1).

## Where SiteMaker runs

SiteMaker runs on-premises on a local Ubuntu workstation. It is installed as a Debian package as part of the NavVis MAP software suite.

## Key features

- **Project wizard** — set up processing projects and select datasets
- **Settings tab** — configure output formats (for example, E57 point clouds), control points, and custom processing arguments
- **Activity Log tab** — monitor processing output in real time and access links to log files and output directories
