# Updating the System Software

Update the NavVis M6 System Software from the Help (?) menu, or from a reminder message on the Home screen.

> [!NOTE]
> **Note:**When the NavVis M6 System Software is older than 98 days, a reminder message and notification badge (red dot over the **Settings** icon) appear on the main UI screen.

To update the NavVis M6 System Software from the reminder message, follow these steps:

> [!NOTE]
> **Note:**If you do not want to immediately update the System Software, click **NOT NOW** on the reminder message. The reminder message closes, but the notification badge remains until you update the System Software.

1. Connect to the internet via an Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi. If the Ethernet cable is not connected, the **Connect to Internet** screen appears notifying you to connect the cable.
2. To open a list of available updates,
  1. Tap **CHECK FOR UPDATE**on the reminder message.

  2. From the main screen tap the Help (?) icon > **Technical Information** > **SOFTWARE UPDATES** > **START SOFTWARE UPDATER**.

  1. Tap **INSTALL**.
  2. Wait for the installation to finish.
  3. Tap **FINISH**.
  4. Restart the device.
