# The User Interface

The User Interface (UI) is a touch screen that controls the features and functions of the device. The user interface provides the following functions: ![](https://cdn.document360.io/bf174766-fa1a-4fe1-a4d7-b1db1e7cb996/Images/Documentation/image-DJG7U4RL.png)

- **Battery status**: Tap the battery icons to see details. The battery icons indicate the charge level of both batteries (each battery indicator turns red when the battery capacity drops below 20%). When the battery is empty, a warning indicator (!) appears on the battery icon to indicate it needs to be replaced, refer [here](https://knowledge.navvis.com/docs/checking-and-charging-the-batteries).
- **SSD card storage:**Indicates how much storage space is available on your SSD in percentage.
- **Wi-Fi:**Indicates status and strength of signal of the Wi-Fi.
- **Help button:** Guidance on how to use the NavVis VLX and technical support information (see [Help Menu](/v1/docs/navvis-vlx-help-menu)).
- **Settings button:**Tap here to adjust the system volume and camera settings, gain access to log information, and ability to exit the application.
- **New dataset** (includes [Sensor Calibration](/v1/docs/calibrating-the-accelerometer-1) and dataset recording)
- **Datasets** (preview Recorded datasets, see [Previewing datasets](/v1/docs/finish-scanning-1) on the NavVis VLX).

## NavVis VLX Help Menu

- About this VLX
- Remote Support
- Save Logs

## About this VLX

From the **About this VLX** screen, you can check the following:

- The software version on the NavVis VLX. The version number indicates the official release, while the software packages it depends on are numbered independently.
- The calibrated version.
- The last calibration for the device with the date format dd.mm.yyyy.
- Check for a [software update](https://knowledge.navvis.com/docs/updating-the-navvis-device-system-software-1) and install the update to the device.

## Remote Support

It is often beneficial for the NavVis support team to remotely connect to your device for a deeper investigation and to check if there is a software or hardware issue on your NavVis device.

To start a remote support session:

- Connect the NavVis VLX to an ethernet port with an ethernet cable.
- Make sure device’s batteries are fully charged.
- From the **Help**screen, click **Remote Support**.
- Click the **Remote support** button. The TeamViewer instance will launch on the NavVis VLX.
- Provide the device specific ID and password shown in this window to NavVis technical support.

## Accessing Tutorials

To access the tutorials, which describe best practices when using the NavVis VLX, perform the following steps:

1. From the **Help** screen, tap **Tutorial**.
2. From the **Tutorial overview** screen, tap one of the following tutorials:
  - Performing loop closures
  - Optimizing Point cloud capture
  - Capturing panoramic images
  - Capturing control points
