# Starting the NavVis MLX

Ensure that the NavVis MLX has been setup correctly, refer to the documentation in the Shipping Case or [here](https://knowledge.navvis.com/docs/setup-2).

1. Make sure the device is placed on a level surface such as the ground or a table.
2. Open the Back Cover and press the On/Off Button to power on.

If it is moved during startup, the screen will indicate the need for another calibration. Refer to [Calibrating the IMU Device](/v1/docs/calibrating-the-accelerometer-1).

1. The NavVis system software launches automatically after the system initializes.
2. If this is the first time powering on the device, accept the license.
3. The screen will display the **Home Screen**and the device is ready for scanning.

## FAQs

****What should I do before powering on the NavVis MLX?****

Ensure that the **device has been set up correctly** by following the instructions provided in the documentation found in the **Shipping Case** or available online.

****Where should I place the NavVis MLX before starting it?****

Place the device on a **level and stable surface**, such as the ground or a sturdy table, to ensure accurate calibration.

****How do I power on the NavVis MLX?****

- Open the **Back Cover** of the device.
- Press the **On/Off button** to start the device.
- Wait for the system to initialize automatically.

****Can I move the device while it’s starting up?****

**No. Do not move the device during startup.** The inertial sensors inside are calibrating, and even minor movement can cause calibration errors. If movement is detected, the screen will prompt you to restart the calibration process.

****What happens after the device initializes?****

The **NavVis system software** will launch automatically. If it’s your **first time starting the device**, you’ll be asked to **accept the license agreement**.

****How will I know when the device is ready for scanning?****

Once the system has fully booted, the **Home Screen** will appear, indicating the device is ready for scanning.

****What if I see a calibration warning on the screen?****

If the device was moved during startup, the inertial sensors may not calibrate properly. Simply **restart the device on a stable surface** and avoid movement during initialization.
