# Point cloud has incomplete or missing data

## Issue description

This procedure describes how to correct an issue where the Point cloud only displays the basement floor, despite multiple attempts at reprocessing.

Figure 1: Only lower or partial data is present

Specifically, this highlights the importance of deleting both the pointclouds folder and the pointcloud.ply file. This will enable the generation of a new, accurate pointcloud.ply and ensure a successful representation of the Dataset.

## Preparing for reprocessing

### 1 Locate the 'pointclouds' folder on your system

1. Browse to the datasets directory
2. Locate the pointclouds folder
3. Delete the pointclouds folderVisual Tip: Look for a folder icon labeled 'pointclouds'

### 2 Identify the 'pointcloud.ply' file within the folder

1. Browse to the datasets directory
2. Locate the pointclouds.ply file within the folder
3. Delete the pointclouds.ply fileVisual

> [!NOTE]
> **Note:**Look for a file icon with '.ply' extension.

### 3 Corrective Action

1. Start NavVis IVION Processing or Desktop Processing software.
2. Initiate the reprocessing by using terminal or SiteMaker. The software will now generate a new pointcloud.ply using the provided dataset(s).

A three-dimensional representation of an environment, made up of many points. A point is defined by x, y and z coordinates, and it may or may not contain RGB, an intensity value, and normals.

A dataset is a piece of a site, the result of a continuous recording with a NavVis mapping device or the result of an imported point cloud. Datasets can contain panoramic images and point clouds.

Functionality that allows processing of data recorded by NavVis devices. Processing recorded datasets is necessary to be able to use the data in an application like NavVis IVION.
