# Mapping Functions

## Controlling the View

| **Action** | **Meaning** |
| --- | --- |
| Zooming in or out | Swipe up or down with two fingers. |
| Rotating the map | Swipe with one finger |
| Pan | Use the pan buttons for moving around the screen. |

## Pausing the Scan

Tap the pause button ![](https://cdn.document360.io/bf174766-fa1a-4fe1-a4d7-b1db1e7cb996/Images/Documentation/pausing-the-scan-image-e7gtywag.png) to pause and resume 3D mapping and the automatic triggering of cameras.

In pause mode, no images are taken and no points are added to the Point cloud. Pause mode is useful in the following scenarios:

- People are coming into view of the device (they should not appear in the point cloud or in panorama images).
- The device is being used in an area where the user does not want to capture panorama images or a point cloud but still wants to continue capturing in the same Dataset.

> [!NOTE]
> **Note:**In pause mode, only the 3D mapping process is paused. Localization is always running. To avoid impairing the quality of the recorded map, **do not** move faster or less carefully than during normal mapping.

## Triggering the Cameras

Tap the camera button ![](https://cdn.document360.io/bf174766-fa1a-4fe1-a4d7-b1db1e7cb996/Images/Documentation/triggering-the-cameras-image-8u197i3w.png) to trigger the cameras manually.

Manual camera triggering is useful when:

- The user needs extra pictures of an object or area.
- Automatic triggering is inactive but the user needs to take a picture in a particular place.

> [!NOTE]
> **Note:**An image is captured immediately when the camera button is pressed. As a result, the images may contain motion blur if the user is in motion.

Automatic camera triggering can be disabled in the **settings**. On the NavVis M6, automatic triggering can be disabled with a long press of the camera button.

A three-dimensional representation of an environment, made up of many points. A point is defined by x, y and z coordinates, and it may or may not contain RGB, an intensity value, and normals.

A dataset is a piece of a site, the result of a continuous recording with a NavVis mapping device or the result of an imported point cloud. Datasets can contain panoramic images and point clouds.
