Introduction
Problem description
When pushing the head release button (M6-0 to M6-3) or pulling the head release lever (M6-4 to M6-5), the head does not (or very slowly) slide upwards to the scanning position.
When pushing the head down after scanning, the head might require significant and unusual amount of force to bring it down onto the body again.
Scope
This procedure is only applicable to the NavVis M6.
Troubleshooting procedure
Over time the hydraulic system of the head or the mounting of the pipes might lose its perfect fit. This is often due to temperature differences between storage and scanning environments or due to extensive travelling with the device.
1 Check bearings
Check if the two bearings on the device have moved - the two yellowish or gray rings around the pipes on top of the body. Shown below are examples of the yellow bearings fallen in or popped out of the body:
If they have moved, contact NavVis Support, as this will affect the calibration and therefore accuracy of the device. This repair can only be performed at NavVis HQ in Germany as it requires a device calibration.
If the bearings are ok, but the head is going up or coming down very slowly, consider contacting NavVis Support in order to perform a check-up of the device.
