# How to rename a dataset

Naming a dataset is typically done at the start when creating a new dataset with your device. You should assign a meaningful name to help identify your datasets and determine which dataset contains which area. Refer to [Tips for Dataset Naming Conventions](https://knowledge.navvis.com/docs/how-to-name-datasets)

Renaming an existing dataset in NavVis IVION is also possible by performing the following procedure:

1. Go to **Site Setup**>**Site Structure**.
2. Click the filter icon and select **Datasets**to only show datasets.
3. Click the pen icon to edit of the dataset. ![NavVisHQ initial scan details with date and time information displayed prominently.](https://cdn.document360.io/bf174766-fa1a-4fe1-a4d7-b1db1e7cb996/Images/Documentation/image-1760534739367.png)
4. The Edit dataset screen is displayed. Here you can:
  - Rename the title of the dataset
  - Change the view and edit permissions of the dataset
  - Label the dataset as a **Drone scan.** ![Editing dataset settings for a drone scan titled HQ_00-00-01_Staircase.](https://cdn.document360.io/bf174766-fa1a-4fe1-a4d7-b1db1e7cb996/Images/Documentation/rename2.png)
