# Editing a POI
Edit a POI to change its details or add more information.
> [!NOTE]
> **Note:** Users who belong only to the **EVERYONE** group can view POIs but not edit them. The POI's creator or a site administrator must give your user group edit access. Site administrators can always edit a POI.
1. Find the POI in the view, or use the topbar **Search** to search by name or description.
2. Select the POI and click **Edit** in its details panel. The **Edit POI** dialog opens with two tabs: **Basic** and **Advanced**.

## Basic tab
### Change the category
Open the **Category** drop-down and select a category. Grouping POIs by category means a search for that category returns all POIs within it.

### Set the view
The saved view is restored whenever someone opens the POI:
- **Use current view**: saves the current location, angle, and zoom. Set the exact view you want first.
- **Use closest panoramic image**: uses the nearest panorama.
- **Use previously specified view** (default): keeps the existing view.
### Set view and edit access
Use the **View** and **Edit** drop-downs to choose which user groups can view and edit the POI.
### Link a webpage in the description
1. In the description editor, click the link icon.
2. Set **Link Type** to **URL**.
3. Enter the **Display Text** and the **URL**.
4. On the **Target** tab, choose where the link opens: Not set (default), , New window (_blank), Topmost window (_top), Same window (_self), or Parent window (_parent). For , enter the **Target Frame Name**.
5. Click **OK**, then **Save**.
### Link an email in the description
1. In the description editor, click the link icon and set **Link Type** to **E-mail**.
2. Enter the **Display Text** and the **E-mail Address**.
3. Optionally add a **Message Subject** and **Message Body** to pre-fill the email.
4. Click **OK**, then **Save**.
### Embed an iframe in the description
1. In the description editor, click **Source** to edit the HTML.
2. Replace the **src** value with your URL:

1. To apply styling, use the **style** attribute — other methods are overwritten when you save:

1. Click **Save**.
### Move a POI
1. Click **Move**. The dialog hides, and **Cancel** and **Save Position** buttons appear on the details panel.
2. In the 2D map or 3D view, click where you want to place the POI.
3. Click **Save Position**, then click **Save**.
### Attach media
1. Click **Add media (images, PDF, audio, video)**.
2. Select the file to upload.

> **Note:** You can upload files up to 20 MB. A POI's storage size depends on the media attached to it.

> **External links:** if a POI description contains external links or external iframe content (outside the NavVis domain), a warning appears before you leave IVION, reducing the risk of malicious content.
## Advanced tab
### Change the importance
Importance sets a POI's display priority. When icons become too clustered as you zoom out, lower-importance POIs are hidden first; high-importance POIs are the last to disappear.
- Select a level from the **Importance** drop-down, then click **Save**.
### Change the icon
By default, a POI uses the icon of its category. To use a custom icon:
- Click **Upload icon** to upload a JPG or PNG at 32×32, 64×64, 128×128, or 256×256 pixels.
- Click the list icon next to **Upload icon** to reuse a recently uploaded icon.
### Check the position
The **Position** field shows the POI's x, y, and z coordinates. To move the POI, use **Move** on the Basic tab.
### Add custom data
Paste a custom data string into the **Custom data** field. For example, data for an application built on the IVION platform. Click **Save**.
### Set visibility
Use the **Visibility** toggle to control whether the POI is hidden when obscured by geometry, such as a wall:
- **On:** obscured POIs are hidden.
- **Off:** the POI is always visible in both panorama and point cloud views, even outside the building's walls. A selected POI stays visible either way.

### Add custom attributes
Custom attributes link a POI to records in external systems — for example, a reference that connects a geolocation to a record held outside IVION.
1. In **Custom attributes**, enter a **Key** and a **Value**.
2. Click **+** to add the attribute. It appears beneath the existing fields.
3. Find it later in the attribute export file (.json recommended) or through site or global search.
4. To remove an attribute, click the delete icon next to it.
5. Click **Save**.

#### How do I set the view for a POI?
