# Control Points

Another effective method for improving map accuracy are control points. By supplying additional, external information about the real-world position of the device, this feature improves the trajectory estimate and allows for automatic geo-registration of Datasets.

The **Control Points** feature allows the user to improve the accuracy of the device's trajectory estimate, as well as to automatically geo-reference and align datasets by supplying additional, external information about its real-world position.

For control points, the NavVis M6 needs to be fitted with a calibrated laser cross-pointing from the device's body to the floor.

A dataset is a piece of a site, the result of a continuous recording with a NavVis mapping device or the result of an imported point cloud. Datasets can contain panoramic images and point clouds.
