# Pausing the Scan

Use pause mode to temporarily stop scanning without ending the dataset.

Tap the **Pause** ![](https://cdn.document360.io/bf174766-fa1a-4fe1-a4d7-b1db1e7cb996/Images/Documentation/image-74DA6CFK.png) from the side bar to pause the scan. To resume scanning, tap **Start** ![](https://cdn.document360.io/bf174766-fa1a-4fe1-a4d7-b1db1e7cb996/Images/Documentation/image-8XCD467V.png) .

When you tap pause, the **PAUSED** text in the top bar blinks until you resume the scan. In pause mode, the device doesn't take images (auto-triggering is disabled) and doesn't add points to the point cloud. Pause mode is useful in the following scenarios:

- You need to take a break while scanning.
- People are visible to the device and shouldn't appear in the point cloud or panorama images.
- You're working in an area where you don't want to capture panorama images or a point cloud, but want to continue capturing in the same dataset.

> Note
> 
> In pause mode, only the scan process is paused, localization keeps running. To avoid reducing the quality of the recorded map, don't move faster or less carefully than normal.
